Vistabella is a very small village near Tarragona that didn't have a church, so its people agreed in 1918 to ask Jujol to build one. Jujol, a very religious man, accepted the project in spite of the short budget, and built the church with very simple elements: land stone and brick for the structure, and wood, forged iron and simple materials for the decorative elements; a fantastic and imaginative representation of the arte povera or "Franciscan art".
Alabaster windows and decorated glass with images of saints were devised to atenuate light and to assure a calm ambiance.
Some followers of Jujol consider this church, with its rough appearance, as one of the big European works of the 20th century.
